The experience of walking through Dumbo at night has changed enormously in the past few years. Since the development of Brooklyn Bridge Park and the revitalization of the industrial village as a land of artists and galleries, the area has become a hotspot for tech start-ups and a hub for creative professionals with the opening of the Made in NY Media Center by the IFP. What was for so long a grid of dark, damp cobblestone streets, towered over by deteriorating factory buildings is now not nearly as lonely, and all surfaces bear some form of artistic marking: spray painted logos, posters, murals, sculptures, street designs painted onto the old tracks, mirrored signs and, for a few nights in November, a great deal of LIGHT. The New York Festival of Light came to Brooklyn for the first time ever this year. In the lights, projected all around up into the clouds and onto the foundation and beyond the towers of the Manhattan Bridge came inventors and artists of all kinds, basking their work in the midst of the bright fantasy land. A true spectacle, purely joyous. The festival runs through tonight, 11/7, and Saturday, 11/8. Enjoy the New York Festival of Light!
